Author Biography

The South is my home.   My ancestors migrated to south Alabama from the Carolinas back in the early 1800s.   After homesteading land and breaking the fertile ground, they worked hard and continued to build their acreage through homestead purchases.   This land that was acquired and the original land deeds are still possessed by my family today.

The land is not nearly as precious as are the stories that have been passed down through my family; they have instilled in me a passion for telling stories of my own.   While completing my Bachelor of Science in English at Faulkner University , I began to write poems and short stories.   There, I received the English Department Award in 1997.   I continued writing through graduate school at Troy State University , where I completed my Master of Education degree and built more confidence in my own writing ability.   In June, 2003, I began writing Runaway Swimmer and finished the first draft in October, shortly after my wife and I discovered that our first child was due in March 2004.

I served in the United States Air Force for four and a half years as an intelligence analyst and reporter and subsequently was employed by as a civilian intelligence analyst. I now work as a functional analyst in south Alabama.   I recently finished another novel called The Tower Quail in May 2004 and began work on a series of young adult fantasy novels that will begin with A Window in the Rain.  We recently moved to Montgomery, Alabama, to be near our family and to be close to the land that is such an important part of our heritage.
